This month’s meeting, which will be held at the Edgewood Lutheran Church on National Road, will have Damon Clark and Chauncy Hull of CentreTown Fitness speaking about supplemental training. Thursday, 07/03/08 (6:30 p.m.) Cameron VFD Firecracker 5K Run & Walk (Cameron, WV). The race starts and ends at the City Building, 44 Main St. The entry fee is $12 until race day ($15). Awards will be presented to the top 3 overall male and female runners and in age divisions. There also will be awards to the top 10 overall walkers. T-shirts will be available. Friday, 07/04/08 (8:30am) Freedom race:Wheeling Heritage trail 5 mile run and 5k walk Wheeling wv.Both events begin and end at Wesbanco Arena, featuring a downtown center loop and the Wheeling heritage trail. The course is flat and fast. Entry fee is $15 until 7/1 ($17) Award to the top 5 male and female runners, top 2 male and female runners in age divisions, and 10 male and female walkers. Pre registrants will receive an embroidered sports duffle bag. There will be post race food and beverages.Sponsored by Centretown fitness and the Hole N Run the race  benefits the programming of the Ohio Valley Runners and Walkers club. The sprint triathlon consists of a 400-meter swim, a 25K bike ride, and a 5K run. Race fees start at $30, with online registration available via www.active.com. The registration deadline is 07/09/08. The race starts and ends at City Park and features a semi-flat tour of the City of Martins Ferry. The entry fee is $15 until 08/04/08 ($20). Friday, 08/01/08 (7:00 p.m.) The Green Mile Run / Walk (Wheeling, WV). The race starts at Wheeling’s Heritage Port, features ChampionChip timing, and has an entry fee of $10 until race day ($13). There will be ChampionChip timing. $50 gift certificates to Play It Again Sports will be awarded to the top 10 male and female runners and the top 3 male and female walkers. Fourth through 10th place walkers will receive trophies, as well as the top 1 male and female runner and walker in age divisions. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 250 registered participants. Saturday, 08/02/08 (7:00 p.m.) 11th Annual Debbie Green Memorial 5K Run / Walk For Leukemia (Wheeling, WV). The race, which benefits a local leukemia patient, starts and ends at Wheeling’s Heritage Port. The course, which is certified, is mostly flat and features city streets and trails. The entry fee is $18 until 07/31/08 ($22). Online registration is available via www.debbiegreen5k.com. There will be ChampionChip timing. Cash awards will be presented to the top 3 male and female runners overall, as well as the first three Americans, master and grandmaster. In addition, there will be cash bonuses for an open course record. The top 3 male and female walkers also will receive cash awards. Saturday, 08/09/08 (8:30 a.m.) Coshocton Firefighters IAFF Local 216 5K Run & Walk (Coshocton, OH).  The race, which benefits MDA, will be held on city streets, and features some rolling hills. The entry fee is $20 until race day ($25). Awards will be presented to the top finishers in various age divisions. T-shirts will be provided to the 1st 75 registrants. There will be post-race door prizes. The race, which starts and ends in the vicinity of Huntington Bank, features a challenging course on The St. Clairsville National Road Bike Trail and the streets of St. Clairsville. The entry fee is $15 until race day ($18). Awards will be presented to the top 5 male and female runners overall and in age divisions. The top 5 male and female OVAC cross-country runners also will be receive awards. Also, the first male and female resident will be recognized. There will be ChampionChip timing. Every 10th finisher will receive a windbreaker. The first 300 entrants will receive T-shirts. There will be post-race pizza, beverages, and door prizes. Saturday, 08/09/08 (9:00 a.m.) Lawrencefield Parish Church 5K Race (Wheeling, WV). The race, which starts and ends at Lawrencefield Church on Table Rock Lane, features rural rolling hills. There is race day registration only, and the entry fee is $15. There will be awards for the top male and female runners in ten-year age divisions and to the top five walkers. High quality, 3-color T-shirts are guaranteed to the 1st 50 registrants. George Frazier will provide timing of the race, which benefits the church. For information, call 304/277-2353.

 

Saturday, 08/16/08 (8:00 a.m.) Parkersburg News & Sentinel Half Marathon (Parkersburg, WV). The half-marathon, which features a rolling course, is the RRCA National Half Marathon Championship. The entry fee is $30 until 07/15 ($35) and 08/01 ($40). There also is a two-mile race, which starts at 8:05 a.m. and has a registration fee of $10 until 07/15 ($15). Online registration is available via www.NewsandSentinelHalfMarathon.com. Timing is via ChampionChip. Awards are plentiful for runners and walkers, male and female, open and heavyweight divisions. T-shirts are guaranteed to pre-registrants. Runners who compete in both the Ogden 20K and The News & Sentinel Half-Marathon will receive a special T-shirt and be elegible for additional cash prizes. Saturday, 10/04/2008.  (9:00 am) Fourth Annual Barkcamp 5K walk and 10K Run.  Proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life.  Please come early as the road becomes part of the course !  (go to the beach!) Awards will be presented to overall winners and to the top three females and males in age groups for both walking and running categories.
