The Ogden race has survived 33 years of service to the City of Wheeling. It has been called the Wheeling Distance Race, The Elby's, The Big Boy Classic, and now the Ogden 20k Classic. No matter what name is given to it, it is still Wheeling's Race. I have worked many hours of going back in the archives of this race and compiling a list of local male runners that have excelled at the 20k. I have broken them down into four categories. The first decade (1977-1986). The second decade (1987-1996). The third decade (1987-2006)and finally a composite of all thirty years of running. The formula that I used is much like a grand prix series. For each decade a runner can run all ten races and I counted the best four in each decade. This also means that a runner would have to compete in at least four races per decade. Points were allotted by place for the first two decades, however, I had to change the formula for the third decade due to the drop in numbers. For example, a time of 1:13:45 would be ninth place in 2006 but was 56th place in 1986. I also adjusted some of the times before 1985. This is when the course was certified and did not turn directly at 29th street. The last two years has also seen a change in the course. I tried not to punish runners for their great times the last few years however I did not reward those with slower times but better places. Another example is Ricky Moore's time this year of 1:07:16 was good for 5th place, in 1986 it places 13th. For the overall, a runner would have to have placed in the top 150 at least six times to score points. My formula is not scientific by any means but it is pretty accurate. For the career best I simply took a runners best six times and averaged them, again I adjusted the pre-1985 times.
