OVRWC Meeting - Tuesday, March 3, 2009 – 7:00 pm

·        Dennis Delbert – Opened the meeting regarding the recent board meeting held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009.

The Board discussed the following issues:

·        Race Timing System

·        Race Director Agreement

·        Tom Rownd  - Lead the club discussion regarding the Race Director Agreement.  He suggested the club have two agreements.  One for charitable and the other for non-charitable races.  Further discussion will be held at the next board meeting.

·        Dennis Delbert – Turned the meeting over to Denny Stephan.  Denny, with the help of Dave Hoskins, demonstrated the Summit Timing System.  The club members participated in a mock race to demonstrate the system.  The members were very impressed with the quick results.  The timing system will be very beneficial to future race events.  The system will be able to store a database of runners.  This use of information would be great for a possible grand prix series.   The system can also time multiple running starts during a race event.

·        Angela Zambito spoke regarding the grant that was introduced to the club by Jill Kriesky.   The grant was to focus on ending childhood obesity in our community.

·        Members discussed the club getting involved by trying to promote “Fun Run” racing events during the upcoming racing season. There was club discussion regarding the “Soles for Souls” project.  This is a project that collects used shoes.  The club would like to implement this type of project.  Dennis Delbert was willing to store the used shoe.  It was suggested that the membership application could have a monetary donation area that new shoes could be purchased also.

·        Marti Stephan – discussed a possible assistance fund that would help children with the need of shoes.  Also race events, less participation fee for those in need. An application process should be taken for both. It was also discussed for a Sponsor Pledge System to sponsor a runner.  Angela Zambito also suggested the runner’s club partner with Wheeling Catholic Charities to help with the local needs of children.  The board will explore the suggested ideas and bring back suggestions to the club for further discussion at the April meeting.

·        The next Board Meeting will be held on Wed., April 1^st.  at the home of Marti & Denny Stephan.
