OVRWC Meeting - Tuesday, July 7, 2009 – 7:00 pm

·        Dennis Delbert – Opened the meeting by having Tom Rownd introduce speaker, Katie Bell, physical trainer and instructor at CentreTown Fitness.  Katie spoke to club members regarding core strength training and demonstrated some of the exercise on the stability ball.  A question and answer session was held.

·        Denny Stephan -  commented about the timing system and is working to correct the problem that was experienced at the Freedom Run.  The timing system will be used as a “back-up” system to George Fraizer for the remaining 2009 race season.  Denny will be perfecting the system with the runners on the Monday night run at Heritage Port.

·        Dennis Delbert – A general racing discussion was held regarding races that did not make the race calendar.  Ton Rownd commented that we need to have all race directors make sure that he gets race information to put on the calendar.  There is also a concern with actual race publicity.  The runner/walkers club has a publicity position, Tonya Mangerie,  who could also help with getting the race information to the public.  This too will be mentioned to race directors.  Dennis will also check with local newspapers on who is actually responsible for publishing race information and racing results, (department head).

Dennis spoke to the club on upcoming “new” 5K races.  The Awesome Autism 5K run & walk will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 8:30 am start.  The race benefits P.A.C.E. (parents for autism community education).  The Intellectual Disabilities 10Krun and 5K run & walk will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 8:00 am start. 

Dennis also spoke to the club regarding the August meeting that will be a picnic.  The picnic will be held on Tuesday, August 4^th, 6:00 pm, at the Wheeling Park Band Stand   The club will provide the meat item; grill supplies, paper products and beverages.  The club members are asked to bring a covered dish.  RSVP by 7/21/09 via ovrwc@comcast.net or call Marti Stephan (304) 242-8055, Cindy Foose (740) 391-1236, or Dennis Delbert (740) 671-1982.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.

·        Tom Rownd – spoke to the club regarding the Awards Committee.  With a general discussion, it was suggested that Mike Hudimac, Awards Committee, work with club members and bring ideas to the September meeting.  The awards would be given at the club’s annual Christmas Party. 

Tom also spoke of the upcoming speakers. September’s speaker will be Heather Wyatt, Wheeling Central Cross-Country Boys/Girls Coach. 

The Jeopardy Game will be held at the Oct. or Nov. meeting.  Angie Amaya volunteered to help with the Jeopardy game questions.

·        Marti Stephan – spoke to the club regarding the newsletters.  She asked the members to take the newsletter ant distribute to area businesses. She also asked the club members to submit newsletter articles to help editor, Maureen Zambito.
