OVRWC Minutes – Tuesday, January 6, 2009 – 7:00 pm

Members present – 16

• Dennis Delbert – Welcomed the group hoping everyone had a good and restful holiday season.  Dennis spoke to the club regarding meeting speakers.  No speaker for this meeting. February meeting will be Dr. Nardone.  The March speaker had to cancel.

• Denny Stephan  - commented further regarding the meeting speakers.  He also mentioned the organizing of the Wheeling Marathon to be held in 2010.

• Jim Rock – Spoke to the club regarding the “Fat Tuesday Run”.  The run will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 5:30 pm.  The run will start and finish at Jim’s house.  A social get-together will also be held.  Members will be asked to bring a covered dish.  A Marti Gras theme will be the highlight of the run, with beads for everyone attending.

• Angela Zambito – spoke to the club regarding the New Year’s Day Run.  The run started at 10:00 am.  There were 10 participants. The run started and finished at the home of Denny and Marti Stephan.  Members enjoyed a social get-together after the run.  Very enjoyable!

• Denny Stephan – spoke to the club regarding the deferment of dues when a club member is experiencing hard times. The member is asked to call and speak to Marti Stephan.  The conversation will be totally confidential. The club members also discussed helping local needy families.  It was suggested by Angela Zambito, who is employed at the Catholic Charities of WV, that she could help locate families in need through an application process.  It was also suggested the club could collect running items.  This would be a great spring project for the club.

• Dennis Delbert – reported the website was back up and running.   The site was experiencing some update needs.

• Board Plans for 2009

New Timing System – the club is looking into the purchase of a new timing system and barcode reader.  The cost is estimated around $2,000 - $2,500.  George Frazier, race director/timer, was contacted regarding the purchase.   He is very interested in the new system. 

Dennis continued the meeting as the speaker for the evening. He discussed the different brand names, styles and increase cost of running shoes.  Dennis suggested anyone who has found the shoe that works for them, keep that shoe whenever possible.  Happy Running!

• Harry Foose – spoke to the club regarding the Tri-Duo athlon that will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009.  

•  Board meeting – Tuesday, January 13, 2009, 7:00 pm at the home of Marti & Denny Stephan.

• Next Meeting – Tuesday, February 3^rd. – 7:00 pm.
