                                                Race Timing System –

Denny Stephan presented the timing system to the members.  The Summit Racing System would consist of 2 timers, bar code reader, laptop, printer and excel program spreadsheet.  The estimated cost would be $2,500.00.  The system has many advantages for the club in not organizing a quick race result, but will also allow a database set-up for easy entry of runners who do multiple races during a racing season.  The club is very excited with the system and hopes to expand into a racing series event.  The system will be tested and will be ready for use at the first race of the season, WeBark 5K.

The club will work with George Fraizer and his group in timing club and other sponsored races.   In using the timing system, George Frazier will pay the club $50.00.  This will help the club recover some of the cost of the new system.

Race Director Agreement -

Marti Stephan will email a copy of the current (draft) copy of the agreement to the board.  Board members were asked to review and email suggestions to further create the Race Director Agreement.  The board plans to implement the agreement at the start of the 2009 racing season.

Dennis Delbert spoke to the club regarding a new race sponsored by OV Connect, young professional group with over 200 members.  The race is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th.  The race is to be located on or near the Olgebay Park area.

·        Angela Zambito – introduced Jill Kriesky.  Jill works for the Appalachian Institute at WJU.  Ms. Kriesky addressed the club regarding a grant that she is writing that is to focus on ending childhood obesity in our community.  She approached the club for help with ideas to help promote healthy living for children. Also attending the meeting was Fran Lane-Lawrence, Laughlin Chapel.  Together they would like to partner with the club to help the students get active through exercise and running events.

Members discussed the club getting involved by trying to promote “Fun Run” racing events during the upcoming racing season.  Also there was club discussion regarding the “Soles for Souls” project.  This is a project that collects used shoes that are sent to other countries.  The club would like to implement this type of project and help those students who attend the Laughlin Chapel.  Possible sponsors could be contacted for monetary donations to purchase shoes for the students.

·        Dennis Delbert – suggested to the club that the March meeting would be a “brainstorm” meeting for club members to work on donation ideas in helping support the end of childhood obesity with promoting fun exercising ideas.

·        Cindy Foose – spoke to the club regarding the 2009 Barkcamp 10 K.

The race will have a new event, a steeplechase for students to participate.  The event will start at the beach.  Also, club members got a preview of the logo for the 2009 event.

·        Dennis Delbert – reminded the club of the “Fat Tuesday Run”, that will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25th.  The start of the run will be at home of Jim Rock.   Also, the club has extra newsletters.  Marti Stephan suggested that club members take and distribute at local business areas.
