Minutes July 1, 2008
Tom Rownd noted that pre-registration for the Freedom Run has been slow, possibly because the applications were not in the newsletter were late. Tom also noted the need for containers for water and ice.
The article on walking that was in the Times-Leader was discussed and noted it was good pr. Denny and Marti Stephen noted that maybe Patricia Graham of the paper could speak at a meeting.
Board Decisions- Denny sent a letter to Perry Nardo of the Ogden newspapers to help in further preparation of the 20k and other events.
Tom noted that due to know table for race applications in the registration tent could be the reason we see race participation down.
It was proposed to have every third month an open forum style meeting with no guest speaker.
Merri Cummings briefed the club on the Saucony Grant that was proposed recently. The grant is for $10,000 and involves kids activities. We will know the outcome by August.
Guest speaker Damon Clark- Damon spoke on his times running at Marshall university and that he has no desire to ever get back into training. He felt that all those years of hard running.
Ronnie Green updated the club on the Debbie Green 5k coming up August 1st and 2nd.
Marc Seamon commented on a new race. Lawrencefield Parish church 5k on August 9
Harry Foose commented on the Faith in action Triathlon and Duathlon at Wheeling Jesuit.
Dennis Delbert mentioned that Shadyside will bring back a 5k to its festival this year July 30th.
Marti read thank you cards.
Angie Zambito elaborated on the newly formed social run on Monday nights at the heritage port.
Joe Ellis announced his intentions to resign from the board due to other obligations. Dennis recommended that Tonya Mengerie could replace him.
Tom commented that the club has renewed energy thanks in part to Dennis as the new president and younger more active members.
Marti discussed the idea of reduced rates for races with families due to the economic times.
Gordon Downie asked the club about a scholarship award. A committee may be organized to look into it
