Former Indian Creek Standout Nate Pennington achieved the Olympic qualifying standard by posting a 2:19 at the California International marathon on December 2nd. Nate started his career at Indian Creek and went on to Malone College and is currently running for the U.S. Army WCAP program (world class athlete program) Nate served a tour in Iraq and then was transferred to Belgium. He worked hard while there to make the WCAP program. He hooked up once again with past friend Dennis Delbert and was accepted into the program in 2007. Coach Delbert coached Nate while still in high school at the Junior Olympic level.
His qualifying time is too late for the Olympic trials of 2007 but this guarantees him four more years in the WCAP program. At the beginning of 2007 his WCAP participation was conditioned upon getting the qualifying standard. Nate still has a sign erected for him in Mingo Junction for his bronze medal winning race at the Junior Olympics in 1994. Who knows, with a little luck maybe 2012 could be a very good year for Nate.
